Welcome to our site!

Welcome to our website. This is all about the Heke Whanau and related Whanau. I would welcome input from whanau members so as to gather correct information.

I am Colin Heke from Te AhuAhu New Zealand. I now reside in Tokoroa New Zealand. I spent 20 years of my working life in Australia. I was involved in the Cinema Industry after I left school. I also spent 3 years in the New Zealand Army. I was married to Elizabeth and we had 5 children.

Parawhenua Marae is located at the corner of SH1 and Te Ahu Ahu Road Te Ahu Ahu. This Marae is of great significance to me. I was born here in Te Ahu Ahu. A lot of work as been done on the Wharenui and before that a new Wharekai was built. This has greatly enhanced the Marae. This is a very Historical part of New Zealand and was the scene of the Maori wars in the North. This area was the place where the first pakeha settlers made their home. Just up the road is Waimate North where the Historic Anglican Church is situated. The Urupa there beside the Church has some very interesting headstones..

My grandfather Rev Hetekia Heke was Ordained a deacon in 1908 by Bishop Neligan was appointed a minister in North Taranaki in 1909. Ordained a priest by Bishop Crossely at the Holy Sepulchre Auckland on the 21st December 1912 and sent to minister in Te Kuiti On 9th September 1913 he was transferred to the Parish of Huntly under Rev J. McWilliam, from here he was transferred as Minister at Hokianga in 1916. He died on Easter Monday 1st April 1918 as a result of a bee sting. He attended school at Pakotai and Te Ruakahikatea College Gisborne. Buried at Mangakahia..
